Jurrien Timber Returns to London as Arsenal Carefully Manage Recovery

Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber has temporarily left the club’s pre-season training base in Spain to return to London as part of the ongoing management of his groin injury.

The Netherlands international has travelled back to the UK for a planned medical assessment linked to his rehabilitation programme. Club sources have made it clear that the visit is a scheduled part of his recovery and should not be viewed as a fresh injury setback.

Rehabilitation Remains on Track

Timber is expected to rejoin Mikel Arteta’s squad in Spain once the assessment has been completed.

The defender has endured a frustrating run with injuries over the past year. He missed the closing stages of last season because of an ankle problem but recovered in time to feature in Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

Soon after returning, however, a groin injury forced him to miss the FIFA World Cup, delaying his full comeback once again.

Important Figure in Arsenal’s Title Success

Despite his injury challenges, Timber played a significant role in Arsenal’s Premier League title-winning campaign.

The versatile right-back made 30 league appearances, establishing himself as the club’s preferred choice on the right side of defence with a series of consistent performances.

His reliability and defensive quality proved valuable throughout Arsenal’s successful domestic season.

Injury Setbacks Since Arriving from Ajax

Timber joined Arsenal from Ajax in July 2023 for an initial transfer fee of £34 million.

His first season in North London was heavily disrupted after suffering a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, forcing him to spend much of the campaign on the sidelines before eventually returning to action.

Since then, Arsenal’s medical team has continued to carefully monitor his fitness to ensure he regains full match sharpness.

Arsenal Preparing for the New Campaign

The Gunners are continuing their preparations ahead of another demanding season.

Arsenal will meet Manchester City in the Community Shield on 16 August before launching the defence of their Premier League crown against newly promoted Coventry City on 21 August.

With Timber expected to return to Spain following his scheduled rehabilitation work, Arsenal remain optimistic that the Dutch international will soon be back training with the squad and available for the start of the competitive campaign.
