Manchester United continued their perfect start in the Players Cup with an entertaining 5-3 victory over Liverpool at St Helens Stadium. Despite a late hat-trick from Liverpool’s Cornelia Kapocs, United had done enough early in the match to secure another impressive result.

Liverpool threatened to make the closing stages uncomfortable for their opponents, but United’s strong first-half performance proved decisive.

United Take Control with Four First-Half Goals

Lea Schuller opened the scoring for Manchester United in the 11th minute, giving the visitors an early advantage. Nineteen-year-old Wales international Mared Griffiths then struck twice in quick succession just before half-time, putting United firmly in control.

The standout moment came from Swedish summer signing Monica Jusu Bah, who produced a brilliant individual goal to make it 4-0. Starting near the halfway line, she drove forward before unleashing a powerful finish into the top-right corner.

United’s commanding lead left Liverpool facing a difficult task after the break, although the hosts refused to give up.

Kapocs Hat-Trick Gives Liverpool Hope

Liverpool began to find their scoring touch in the final stages, with Kapocs getting her first goal in the 76th minute. However, United responded almost immediately as captain Maya Le Tissier produced an excellent finish to restore their four-goal cushion.

Kapocs continued to threaten, scoring twice more during the final 10 minutes to complete her hat-trick. Her efforts made the scoreline more respectable, but they were not enough to prevent Liverpool from suffering defeat.

The eight-goal encounter showcased United’s attacking quality while also highlighting Liverpool’s determination to fight until the final whistle.
