Sheffield Wednesday have brought Reece James back to the club on a one-year contract covering the remainder of the season.
The 32-year-old defender was available as a free agent after leaving Rotherham United at the end of the previous campaign.
James is no stranger to Hillsborough, having previously spent two seasons with the Owls between 2022 and 2024. During that spell, he made 80 appearances for the club.
Although James found the net just once during his first stint in Sheffield, his only goal came at a memorable moment. He scored in Wednesday’s emphatic 5-1 victory over Peterborough United in the Championship play-off semi-final in May 2023.
That result helped Wednesday progress to the final at Wembley, where they ultimately secured promotion.
His return provides Sheffield Wednesday with additional defensive experience and reunites the player with a club where he has already established a strong connection.
Owls sporting director Simon Wilson believes James’ previous relationship with the club makes him an ideal addition at this stage of the season.
