Hibernian have completed the signing of Manchester United midfielder Jacob Devaney on loan, with the Scottish Premiership club also having an option to make the transfer permanent.

The 19-year-old midfielder returns to Scotland after spending part of last season with St Mirren. Devaney captained Manchester United’s Premier League 2 side during the opening half of the campaign before moving to Paisley, where he made 18 appearances.

Primarily used as a deep-lying playmaker, the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international scored once and recorded one assist during his spell with St Mirren.

Devaney also featured for United during their July pre-season fixtures against Wrexham and Rosenborg. He found the net against Rosenborg, further highlighting his attacking potential from midfield.

Hibernian head coach David Gray believes the youngster has the technical ability and ambition to continue developing at Easter Road.

The move represents an opportunity for Devaney to gain more regular first-team experience in the Scottish Premiership while continuing his progression away from Manchester United.

Hibs Beat Competition to Devaney

Hibernian sporting director Malky Mackay revealed that several clubs had shown interest in the young midfielder before Hibs secured his services.

Devaney’s previous experience in the Scottish Premiership was an important factor, giving him an understanding of the competition and its demands.

For Hibernian, the signing provides another promising midfield option, while Devaney gets the chance to continue his development in a competitive first-team environment.

The Edinburgh club will now hope the Manchester United academy product can make a strong impact during his time at Easter Road.

Hibernian Also Agree Swan Deal

Hibernian have also reached an agreement to sign United States youth international Colton Swan, although the forward will not arrive in Scotland until December.

The 19-year-old is currently contracted to Charleston Battery and will remain with the club until the conclusion of the 2026 USL Championship campaign.

Swan has enjoyed an impressive season in the second tier of American football, scoring 11 goals and supplying three assists.

His eventual arrival will give Hibernian another young attacking player to develop, adding to a growing group of promising prospects at the club.

With Devaney arriving ahead of the end of the transfer window and Swan scheduled to join later in the year, Hibernian are continuing to invest in young talent while strengthening their squad for the season ahead.
