Liverpool Begin Iraola Era with Victory Despite Early Injury Concern
Liverpool opened a new chapter under head coach Andoni Iraola with an entertaining 4-2 pre-season victory over Sunderland in the United States. With Mohamed Salah no longer at the club, Liverpool continue searching for additional attacking options, but Morrison’s display suggested he could provide valuable depth if he remains with the first-team squad this season.
Although Liverpool pressed aggressively in phases, Iraola will know improvements are still needed defensively. Sunderland were allowed too much space for both of their goals, exposing areas the new coaching staff will look to tighten before the competitive campaign begins.
The attacking display continued after the break as Federico Chiesa delighted Liverpool supporters with a clinical finish following an excellent pass from Calvin Ramsay. Lewis Koumas then sealed the victory by adding the fourth goal late on after another promising move.
One of the evening’s brightest young prospects was 16-year-old Josh Abe, who made his senior debut after coming off the bench. The highly rated England youth international contributed well during the build-up to Liverpool’s final goal and showed glimpses of his exciting potential.

Liverpool leave Nashville with a victory, but Iraola made it clear that the result alone is not enough. He stressed the importance of maintaining high standards, continuing to improve and avoiding complacency as the team adapts to his style of play.
